Archaeology
Carracastle has at least 20 Pre-historic Forts in the area. Stone and Earthen Forts are noted in a book on Carracastle published by local historian Vincent Coleman.
On Lough Gara there are Crannogs dotted along the Lough - these are man-made stone islands built over 3,000 years ago.
The Céide Fields of Mayo have exposed 2,000 acres of stone walled fields built over hills and valleys with a unique interpretative centre.
